Two NFL Coaches Axed After Disappointing Seasons

In 2010, the St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers combined for 17 wins, had good young quarterbacks, and appeared to be franchises on the rise. A year later, the two teams combined for six wins (including none in the final seven weeks of the season), and both teams are now looking for new head coaches.

The Bucs fired third-year coach Raheem Morris, and his entire staff today (via Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune). And earlier this morning the Rams parted ways with Steve Spagnuolo after his third year with the club (via Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch).

Both teams entered the season with high expectations. And the Bucs actually got off to a strong 4-2 start. But ten straight losses, including a stretch where they gave up at least 35 points in six of the final eight games, sealed Morris' fate.

The Rams are expected to pursue Jon Gruden, who has reportedly decided to return to coaching in 2012. However, Gruden insists that he will remain with ESPN in 2012.
