After watching keeper Tim Howard score a ridiculous goal from 100 yards away for Everton yesterday, the first thing you might have noticed was just how subdued Howard was.
Not celebrating a goal in sport known for exaggerated celebrations is rare. It is even more amazing when the goal is of the "incredible" variety. But it turns out Howard had a good reason to keep his celebration tame (via Dirty Tackle)...
"I was delighted...but it's not a nice feeling for a keeper. It's really awful actually."...Howard also reached out to the opposing keeper after the game..."I let him know that I was feeling for him...It's not a nice place to be. I've been there before, a long, long time ago, and that was why I didn't celebrate."
Howard even went on to explain that the goal was not the opposing keeper's fault, but rather the wind had been causing havoc for everybody.
In this look-at-me sports world we now live, this was refreshing.
