It's never a good sign when your coach starts talking about the human condition (unless he's Phil Jackson).
But that's what Erik Spoelstra did during and after last night's shock loss to the Celtics at home.
Here's what he said before the fourth quarter when ESPN's Doris Burke asked him how Boston went on a 15-1 run:
"They got us twisted in the mind."
Um, okay.
After the game, Spoelstra philosophized a little more.
Here's what he told reporters, apparently unprompted (via Yahoo!):
"Our focus is to fight any kind of noise from the outside, or any human condition."
If you assume that "human condition" means to "fold up the tent after suffering a shock loss at home," then this statement roughly translates to, "Our focus is to fight any urge to completely and utterly collapse."
Conventional wisdom says you want your coach exuding confidence at a moment like this. But maybe laying all of his psychological cards on the table is some sort of motivational tactic.
