This past weekend's Sunday Night Football matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants set a ratings record for NBC as their highest-rated regular season primetime game ever. But even more astonishing is just how many women are tuning in to watch the NFL.

According to NBC, in addition to being the top rated show in primetime, Sunday Night Football is the third most popular primetime show among women aged 18-49. Only "Two and a Half Men" and "Modern Family" are more popular among women.

This is a huge coup for NBC and the NFL as women are responsible for over 85 percent of consumer purchases. That is a huge advertising demographic that could mean even more revenue for the NFL teams.

The Cowboys-Giants game drew an average of 27.6 million viewers. That eclipsed the previous high on NBC, the Thursday night opener in 2010 between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. That game drew 27.5 million viewers.
