Michael Jordan gives Patrick Ewing headlock during 1984 US Olympic tryouts

Michael Jordan's never-ending competitiveness comes to light even in the most random of situations.

As a member of the 1984 Olympic team comprised of amateurs, Jordan and USA basketball teammate Patrick Ewing would horse around in their dorm rooms during Olympic tryouts.

One time the shorter Jordan (6'6" compared to Ewing's 7'0") got Ewing in a headlock, according to Jack McCallum's just released "Dream Team" book.

Ewing couldn't move his neck when he woke up the next morning, which he knew was going to be a big problem once he told their tyrant coach Bob Knight.

He told Knight exactly what Jordan did.

"So I sat out, man, Coach Knight was mad. But only at me. Michael? Nothing happened to him. Nothing ever happened to Michael."

Jack McCallum's  "Dream Team: How Michael, Magic, Larry, Charles, and the Greatest Team of All Time Conquered the World and Changed the Game of Basketball Forever" came out Tuesday, July 10, so we'll be combing through it for interesting tidbits throughout the day.
