Yesterday we took a look at the recent rise in attendance at NFL games. And with the number of tickets sold for each game over 67,000, the average NFL game has more than twice as many fans as any of the other major North American sports leagues.
But while the NFL is still this country's most popular sport, they are only fourth when it comes to total attendance, selling just 17.1 million tickets in 2011.
In fact, Major League Baseball's total attendance (74.9 million) is actually greater than the other four sports leagues combined (65.9 million).
Here's the breakdown of attendance for the NFL, NBA*, NHL, MLS, and MLB from their most recently completed season.
Data via ESPN.com. The NBA's total attendance is projected over a full 82-game season as the 2011-12 season was reduced to 66 games due to a lockout.
