The 25 Most Overpaid Players In Major League Baseball

According to most fans, their favorite team has at least one player that is severely overpaid. And on the next few pages we are going to take a look at the worst of the worst.

To do this, we compared a player's production value to how much they were paid. A player's production value is determined by how many Wins that player was worth to his team based on WAR (Wins Above Replacement). WAR looks at a player's overall production (including defense) and puts all players, including pitchers, on the same scale.

Some players can actually have a negative production value. In these cases, not only did the player not help the team win games, but the team would have won more games if they just cut him and replaced him with a player off the scrap heap.

WAR values can then be converted to dollars based on how much teams pay in free agency. It has been determined that every Win is worth approximately $4.5 million.

For each of these 25 players, the player was worth at least $10 million less than he was paid.
