Before this weekend, there was a lot of sentiment that if Notre Dame finished the regular season undefeated they would find a way into the BCS Championship game even if both Oregon and Kansas State also went undefeated. But after struggling to beat Pittsburgh in triple-overtime, that no longer seems possible.
Notre Dame fell one spot this week, with Oregon moving up to third on the strength of their win over USC. Meanwhile, Kansas State's hold on second place slipped a little. After leading Notre Dame by .025 and Oregon by .026 last week, the Wildcats now have just a .015 point lead over Oregon. Notre Dame is now .027 behind K-State.
There is still hope for Notre Dame who leads both Oregon and Kansas State in the computer polls. But they would need many of the human voters to suddenly move them up in their polls. And there is little reason to think that will happen...
