The NFL announced that they will open the 2012 season on Wednesday, September 5 with the New York Giants hosting a yet-to-be-named opponent (via ESPN.com).
In recent years the NFL opened on a Thursday. However, the 2012 opener was moved so as not to conflict with President Barack Obama's address at the Democratic National Convention.
This will mark the first time the NFL has played a game on a Wednesday in 64 years. And it will be the first time ever that the NFL opened the season on a Wednesday (see below)...
