All the time, people who want to work in sports ask Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban about how they can get into the industry.
His answer?
"Don't."
He said the sports industry is the "worst possible business for a college graduate to try to get into. It doesn't pay s--t. There are a thousand people applying for every job."
He said degrees in "sports management" don't help.
"Sports management is the new rocks for jocks. You've got to have some other skill set."
Even then, says Cuban, "you've still got the challenge that I get 20 resumes a week saying 'I'll work for free, I just want a chance.'"
He talked about this in a keynote interview at an MIT conference last week.
