Jordan Spieth had a fantastic answer when asked about the pressure of going for his 3rd straight major championship

Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth has a chance to win his third straight major championship on Monday as he enters the final round of the British Open just one stroke behind the leaders.

Spieth, 21, quickly erased any thought about cracking under pressure with one fabulous answer when ESPN asked him about thinking of what was at stake during the final round. Spieth is clearly a player whose head is in a good place right now.

Jordan Spieth Quote

Spieth went further during his post-round news conference, talking about how he approached pressure as a positive.

As far as handling it, I don't look at it as a negative thing, I look at it almost as an advantage. Why should it add more pressure in a negative way? If it adds more pressure, it just makes me feel like this is something that's a little more special, let's go ahead and get the job done. I know it's easier said than done, but when you say added pressure, most people associate that with negativity or something that can hinder what's comfortable. For me, I think it could be advantageous. You hit the ball a little bit further, you can really get your mind around a more specific target and block out other things.”

Now that is an athlete who knows the power of positive thinking.

Phil Mickelson's great run at the British Open ends when his tee-shot lands on a hotel balcony

Phil Mickelson opened the final round at the 2015 US Open Championship strong. Through 16 holes he was -6, and his late surge had vaulted him all the way to -10 for the tournament. Mickelson's charge brought back memories of his 2013 Open Championship performance, where he came back from down five shots to win the tournament

And then this happened:

Phil Mickelson hits shot onto hotel balcony

Mickelson's tee-shot to start the notoriously difficult 17th hole went so poorly it somehow ended up on a hotel balcony.

The off-target drive ruined any chance for a late comeback as the Hall of Fame golfer finished with a triple bogey score of 7 on the hole, ruining what was an otherwise spectacular round (via Dan Levy).

The NBA's Western Conference will be a bloodbath next season

$

steph curry

The NBA's superior conference has gotten even stronger this offseason.

Last season the NBA world was robbed of what was supposed to be an intense, entertaining playoff duel in the Western Conference when injuries took out star players and rotation players alike, giving the Golden State Warriors a fairly uncontested path to the Finals.

The Warriors were always the favorites in the West in 2014-2015, but the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Houston Rockets, and even the Portland Trail Blazers and the Memphis Grizzlies were second-tier competitors. The Oklahoma City Thunder were removed from the conversation when they were decimated by injuries.

This summer, however, several of those teams in contention have gotten even stronger, leaving no clear title favorite.

Now, here's a look at how many of those teams have improved:

  • The Spurs landed the biggest free agent of the summer in LaMarcus Aldridge. They re-signed Kawhi Leonard to a max contract, brought back Danny Green, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili on discounts, and signed power forward David West to a minimum contract. They're loaded with talent.
  • The Clippers fixed their biggest weakness by bolstering their depth. They stole back DeAndre Jordan and turned last year's supporting cast of Matt Barnes, Spencer Hawes, Glen Davis, and Hedo Turkoglu into Paul Pierce, Josh Smith, Lance Stephenson, and Cole Aldrich.
  • The Houston Rockets traded for point guard Ty Lawson on Sunday, adding an extra playmaker and shooter next to James Harden. Though Lawson is dealing with the fallout from a second DUI, if he's available, he adds and extra dose of talent to a core that took the Warriors to five games (and nearly six) in the Conference Finals.
  • The Oklahoma City Thunder brought back all of the pieces they traded for last season. If Kevin Durant, Serge Ibaka, and Russell Westbrook all stay healthy, this could be their deepest, most talented team of the Durant era.
  • The Warriors took care of their biggest offseason business — re-signing Draymond Green. They bring back the entire core of a team that basically ran through the NBA.

Below those five, the rest of the conference isn't quite as intimidating. The Grizzlies will be solid, as usual, and the New Orleans Pelicans, the Phoenix Suns, and the Utah Jazz seem primed to take the next step, but they won't be contenders.

The top of the Western Conference will be the real bloodbath. Each of those teams is armed with several superstars and a deep supporting cast, with benches that go at least three players deep with little drop-off. Health and luck, of course, will play factors, and teams such as the Spurs and the Clippers might have trouble integrating new pieces.

Nonetheless, if all goes right, basketball fans could be treated to some must-watch TV when any of these teams face each other.

Paul Dunne could lose $1.8 million at the British Open because he wants to compete in an international amateur competition

$

Paul Dunne

One of the biggest stories entering the final round of the Open Championship is amateur rookie Paul Dunne from Ireland who was tied for the lead after 54 holes.

That Dunne has a chance to be the first amateur to win the Open since 1930 is amazing. However, he took a big gamble staying an amateur and now it has a chance to cost him millions both on and off the course.

If Dunne were to go on and win the Open, the first thing he will miss out on is the $1.8 million share of the purse. That money will instead be “distributed proportionately among the professional players who have made the cut," the Royal & Ancient Golf Club announced.

Dunne is also missing out on huge endorsement possibilities. Like Jordan Spieth, Dunne has been decked out head-to-toe at the Open in Under Armour gear. But since he is an amateur, the apparel company can't pay Dunne even though the exposure has been worth millions for the company.

But as for now, Dunne remains an amateur even though he completed his career as a college golfer at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and the reason is because he wants to compete in the Walker Cup later this year, according to the Irish Times

Similar to the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup is an international competition for amateur golfers representing the United States and a joint team from Great Britain and Ireland.

The possibility of playing in the Walker Cup must be extremely tempting for Dunne who was not a part of the 2013 team that lost to the United States and may never get the opportunity to play in the Ryder Cup. However, now he has to weigh that temptation against a financial one that may be even greater.

While Dunne is already assured of missing out on prize money at the British Open, he could still cash in after the tournament through endorsements. If he remains an amateur until after the mid-September Walker Cup there is a risk that his endorsement appeal will fade.

That could be too much of a risk to pass up.

Brandon Browner Seattle SeahawksBrandon Browner is only a few months removed from signing a three-year $15 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. However, the Pro Bowl cornerback is already considering a return to the Seattle Sehawks, the team he's spent the majority of his NFL career with.

In an interview at Richard Sherman's annual celebrity softball game, Browner told reporters he's hoping to return to Seattle once his current contract with the Saints is up, according to Seattle Times' Bob Condotta:

Browner went undrafted in 2005, but after becoming a perennial All-Star in the Canadian Football League, he signed with the Seahawks in 2011 and quickly became a key contributor to the team's "Legion of Boom" secondary. Browner's lone Pro Bowl appearance came with the Seahawks in 2011.

After winning the Super Bowl in 2014 with Seattle, Browner signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots where he started alongside Darrelle Revis to win his second consecutive championship.

Neither Browner, nor any Saints representatives, have commented on Browner's remarks.

Remarkably he was not injured badly and finished the stage.

Thomas is a key support rider for Chris Froome, the current race leader. Thomas sits sixth overall.

The BBC reported Thomas as saying: "It was a hard right and I was just following the wheel and then all of a sudden Barguil went into me. I feel all right for now — I guess the doctor will ask me my name and date of birth soon.

"A nice Frenchman pulled me out — but I lost my glasses as well. They don't even make them anymore."

The Tour finishes in Paris on July 26.

7 awesome facts about golf phenom Jordan Spieth

Under Armour shares fell a little bit after Jordan Spieth didn't win the British Open (UA)

$

Under Armour shares are up about 1.8% on Monday.

But they were up about 2.4% earlier in the day as one of the company's most popular young athletes — golfer Jordan Spieth — was making a run at winning the British Open, which would have been this third major win of the season. (Spieth previously won both The Masters and the US Open.)

On the 17th hole on Monday, however, Spieth missed a birdie putt that would've given him a share of the lead heading into the tournament's final hole. And this missed putt sent Under Armour shares heading a bit lower.

Spieth later missed a putt on the 18th and finished behind a three-way tie for the lead.

Spieth winning the British would've put him in line to win golf's Grand Slam at next month's PGA Open, a feat that hasn't been accomplished in golf's modern era.

You can follow all of BI's coverage of the British Open on our sports page here

But as for Under Armour shares, they were off just a little bit after Spieth's round.

Chelsea FC 2015-2016 kit

Uber is partnering with English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea FC to deliver a limited number of Chelsea's new soccer jerseys to fans across the world, Uber announced on their website.

Uber's head of business Fraser Robinson said the company is "thrilled" to partner with the reigning Barclays Premier League champions on the exclusive promotion:

"We are thrilled to team up with Chelsea FC — one of the top football teams in the world — for this exclusive promotion, which represents a first for Uber in the world of sports. We are always looking for ways to make the Uber experience even better for our millions of riders worldwide, and can’t wait to deliver Chelsea’s highly anticipated kits to fans."

Chelsea originally unveiled their new jerseys in a video posted to Twitter July 16:

The new Adidas-sponsored jerseys will go on sale Wednesday July 22, but they're already available to Uber users in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Cape Town, Moscow, Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, and Tokyo. In order for fans to request a jersey they need to type in the special promotional code attached to each city:
  • New York: CHELSEAFCNYC
  • Los Angeles: CHELSEAFCLA
  • Cape Town: CHELSEAFCCT
  • Moscow: CHELSEAFCMSK
  • Mumbai: CHELSEAFCMB
  • Rio de Janeiro: CHELSEAFCRIO
  • Shanghai: CHELSEAFCSH
  • Tokyo: CHELSEAFCTKY

Once fans type in their respective city's code, they'll unlock the special "Chelsea" view. From there, fans request the "Chelsea" option in the app, and if a nearby driver is available they should receive their brand new Chelsea jersey within minutes. However, fans should act fast as Uber warns that demand is extremely high, and there's only a limited number of jerseys available.

Chelsea managing director Christian Purslow said the club is "delighted" to be partnering with Uber, calling it a "unique opportunity:"

"We are delighted to be collaborating with such a global and innovative company as Uber to help deliver our new kit to Chelsea fans around the world. Alongside our partners Adidas and Yokohama, we are very proud of our new kit, and hope this special and unique opportunity will delight Uber riders around the world in the coming days."

Jordan Spieth comes up just short at British Open with a heart-breaking final three holes

jordan spieth

Jordan Spieth was the talk of the golf world going into the final round of the British Open.

Trailing by one on the final three holes of the tournament, Spieth was looking for his third straight major of the year and keeping alive hopes of a grand slam.

On the 16th hole, Spieth nailed an amazing putt for a birdie that tied him for the lead with Zach Johnson and Marc Leishman.

Jordan Spieth birdie on 16

Entering a critical 17th hole where he needed par just to stay in the mix for first, Spieth collapsed, shooting a bogey at the worst possible time:

Jordan Spieth GIF

The 16th and 17th holes may have been a fitting end for Spieth. He ranks second in the tour on putts from 15-25 feet, but only 122nd on putts from within 10 feet.

The miss dropped Spieth to -14, only one off the lead, but put a ton of pressure on him to birdie the final hole and make the playoff a four-man race.

Instead, Spieth's approach on 18 spun back into the Valley of Sin. Needing to sink this putt, he gave it a good run, but just missed and the hopes for a grand slam were gone.

Jordan Spieth bogey

Spieth tried his best to shake off the miss, but in an interview with ESPN after he finished, described his finish as "tough" and "tough to swallow," noting "it stings" to come up that short:

"Just tough ... just tough. You don't expect to make the putt from down in the gulley, but I wanted to give it a good effort. It had a chance to go in, and I was still a little upset about being down there instead of having a really solid opportunity."

...

"Right now, it's just a tough feeling to be that close in a major. It doesn't matter about the historical element of it. Just to be that close on our biggest stage and to come up just short ... you know, how many chances do you get?"

Ultimately, if there's a player on the tour that people aren't too worried about, it's Spieth. At just 21 years old, Spieth is golf's next star. As he noted, coming so close to a major stings, but he has ample time to do it.

Alex Morgan in FIFA 16

Just a few weeks removed from winning the World Cup, US women's national team star Alex Morgan has received another honor. EA Sports announced Monday that Morgan will appear on the US cover of FIFA 16, alongside FC Barcelona and Argentina men's national team star Lionel Messi, who appears on the global cover of the game.

Canada's Christine Sinclair and Australia's Stephanie Catley will appear on the Canadian and Australian covers, respectively. Morgan, Sinclair and Catley will be the first women to ever appear on a cover of FIFA in the franchise's 22 years of existence.

EA Sports first announced the news on Twitter:

FIFA 16 will also be the first version of the game to feature women's soccer teams. EA Sports announced in late May that 12 women's national teams would be included in this year's game. As a result, EA Sports manager of North America marketing David Pekush Sr. believed Morgan and Sinclair to be "the perfect cover athletes" for this year's edition.

“As soon as we knew Women’s National Teams were joining FIFA 16, we immediately recognized that Christine and Alex would be the perfect cover athletes based on their accomplishments and what they represent for their respective countries and the sport of women’s soccer," Pekush said. "They are exhilarating players and exude heart and courage on the pitch, and we are extremely proud to be working with them this year.”

Morgan took to Twitter to express her excitement:

Both Morgan and Sinclair, along with other members of the US and Canada women's national team, spent time at EA Sports' studios in Canada working with the motion-capture team to record footage for in-game use, and helping with the development of new player models.

FIFA 16 will hit stores September 22.

Two men free-climbed a mountain in Yosemite that no one had ever summited before and took these incredible photos

In January, climbers Kevin Jorgeson and Tommy Caldwell set a record by being the first to free-climb the 3,000-foot walls of El Capitan, a vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park in California.

It's considered to be one of the hardest climbs in the world.

The climbers documented their climb with incredible photos that show just how hard their journey was.

Here is the Dawn Wall on El Capitan, where we get a glimpse of the wall's height and the beautiful scenery of Yosemite in the background.

 on

From afar, it's difficult to see just what the climbers went through in order to set their record, but when you look closer, you can see that the two used tiny cracks in the walls to help them with their ascent.

 on

Because of this, they would often battle raw fingertips. Here, on the ninth day of their journey, Tommy Caldwell sands the edges of his fingers to avoid any tearing that can happen when heading back up to the rocks.

 on

The ascent was planned to be completed in around two weeks, so they had tents they would rest and sleep in during their climb.

 on

Besides the time they would spend climbing, Kevin and Tommy also faced the challenge of getting relaxation time in their tents. According to photographer Corey Rich who uploaded this image, the two would do yoga, update their social media, and charge their electronics with solar panels, which is what Tommy is repositioning here.

 on

Here, we can see how the climbers would find edges and cracks to help get to the top.

 on

After the sun set and it began to get dark, they would use flashlights attached to their head to continue climbing.

 on

Here, Kevin tackles the "Dyno Pitch" which is one of the hardest parts of the climb considering you have to jump six feet and clasp onto an edge to control momentum.

 on

Climbers will position their bodies in unexpected ways to scale walls at the best angles, which is why they sometimes refer to their sport as "dancing up rocks."

 on

Finally, after 19 days of the difficult endeavor, the two celebrated their record-breaking journey to the top of the Dawn Wall.

Zach Johnson won the Open Championship with a great run in the final round that included a long putt on the 72nd hole and a win over Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in a 4-hole playoff

It was Johnson's second major championship and first since winning the Masters back in 2007. In doing so, he became just the sixth golfer to win majors at both Augusta National and St. Andrews, two of the most storied courses, joining an impressive list of Hall of Fame golfers

After the tournament, Johnson broke down during an interview with ESPN's Tom Rinaldi.

On the heartbreaking nature in which his opponents came up short: "You don't want to see a tournament end on a miss, I hate that and Louis is a champion, and a friend."

On what this win means to him: "I've come a long way since 2007. That kinda launched my golf career. I think what this does, if anything, is really put things in perspective for me ... Because I play golf for a living and I am grateful for that. It's a beautiful game and it provides great opportunity and I'm proud to be a part of great people. I'm just so thankful."

Yet another video of the adorable Riley Curry is making the rounds, and this time she's dancing the Nae Nae.

But we just found another clip from late last year that shows the three-year-old has been a great performer since she learned how to talk.

The two-minute video shows Riley judging a cooking competition between her parents, Steph and Ayesha Curry.

Riley first rose to fame when she made her presence known at a press conference while her dad was taking questions in May. Since then, she's made another press conference appearance and, most recently, danced the Nae Nae.

And in this throwback video posted by ESPN on Jan. 9, she's fully of witty rejoinders despite being barely able to speak a full sentence.

In the video, a one-off ESPN spoof called "Kitchen Warriors," Stephen and Ayesha have to cook their own version of chicken curry, as requested by Riley.

Riley then decides which one of her parents is the winner.
