Derrick Rose is a very wealthy man.
Signing a five-year contract extension with the Chicago Bulls worth nearly $95 million will do that for you.
And he’s about to get richer.
We wrote earlier this week that Rose was closing in on a deal with Adidas that would make him one of the highest-paid shoe endorsers ever.
Looks like the two sides are getting closer.
In his Weekend Dime on ESPN.com, Marc Stein drops news from “one industry source” that the point guard will soon sign a “lifetime” endorsement deal with the company worth up to $250 million.
The 10-year deal would surely make Rose the “face” of the company – as if he’s not already – around the world. Why is he worth it?
Stein wrote, “Rose, as it was explained to me, is adidas’ only counter to Kobe Bryant in China. I’m told Rose already outsells LeBron James there.”
Which means he also clearly outsells Dwight Howard.
Which continues to appear to be the biggest obstacle separating a union of the NBA’s reigning MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.
