Missy Franklin just set the world record in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:04.06.
The world record was previously set by Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe with a time of 2:04.81 at the World Championships in Rome in 2009. Missy surpassed that mark by 0.75 seconds.
This is Missy's third gold medal and fourth overall in London . It's also the first time the U.S. has won this event since 1972 when Melissa Belote took gold in Munich.
Fellow American Elizabeth Beisel took the bronze.
