Western Kentucky won their fourth straight game to become champions of the Sun Belt Conference tournament and qualify for the NCAA tournament despite a 15-18 record.
WKU entered the conference tournament with an 11-18 record and were just 6-7 under interim head coach Ray Harper, who took over mid-season for Ken McDonald. McDonald was fired one day after the Hilltoppers lost a controversial game in which Louisiana-Lafayette scored the winning basket with six players on the court and McDonald did not protest play.

Western Kentucky is the first team to qualify for the NCAA tournament since 2008 when Coppin State earned a bid with a 16-20 record.
