With Princeton's win over Penn tonight, in both team's regular season finale, Harvard has done something they couldn't do with Jeremy Lin. That is, they won the Ivy League and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament, their first since 1946.
For some perspective about how long it has been for Harvard, consider these tidbits about the 1946 NCAA Tournament...
- Only 8 teams were in the tournament
- The Ivy League did not exist and Harvard played in the Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League
- In the four first round match-ups, only one school scored more than 50 points. North Carolina beat NYU 57-49
- The tournament was won by Oklahoma A&M, which is now Oklahoma State. It was their second straight NCAA Championship under legendary coach Henry Iba.
- Oklahoma A&M was led by Bob Kurland, a 7-footer who is considered the first player to regularly dunk during games
