There was a disturbing child sex scandal, a wild ending to the baseball season, and a polarizing quarterback who just couldn't stop winning.
Sports Illustrated set the benchmark with some great covers. But a bunch of other publications came up with some poignant, attention-grabbing covers and front pages.
Believe it or not, SI didn't even grab the No. 1 spot on our list.
